I fully believe everyone needs (and has) a spirit guide, whether it be an animal, a religious figure, Mother Nature, or in my case, Yoda. I know you may have no idea what or who your spirit guide is, much less given this much thought. Maybe you know EXACTLY who or what your spirit guide is, but have lost touch throughout the years.
We all have something, that thing, that we know we do, but isn’t helpful in the least. If you are anything like me, you have MANY of those “things” (unfortunately). My biggie, though, is getting easily overwhelmed and then losing touch with myself and my intuition. I then look like a frenzied person, much like a Black Friday shopper waiting in line to be one of the 5 people to score a big screen TV, at 4am, the day after Thanksgiving.
I then start to seek answers outside of myself, modeling what “others” are doing, and then pretty soon I am drowning in a case of comparisonitis. This looks like me procrastinating because I am now telling myself that there is NO WAY I can measure up, so I might as well just not try.
I bet you can relate. Maybe you doubt your ability to get that promotion because you have decided that someone else is more deserving. Maybe you are neglecting healthy eating habits because you think you need to look like the physically fit girl in the weight loss ads, right now, TODAY, and believe it is hopeless. Maybe you have forgotten what you really want and what makes you really happy, so you are running in circles trying to figure this out from others, which ultimately ends in disappointment.
Once I am finally honest with myself that I am stuck in this trap, I call upon my spirit guide to get me off the hamster wheel. I have always been a sci-fi fan, especially when it comes to Star Wars. (As a kid I had a choice between a Cabbage Patch Kid or a stuffed Ewok. Guess which one I chose.)
And I can’t think of anyone more credentialed to be my spirit guide than Yoda. As a matter of fact, a sketch of Yoda has been hanging on the wall right next to a street artist sketch of myself for over 10 years now, way before I started my own spiritual journey. How ironic. Somehow I knew.
Yoda embodies intuition, tranquility, wisdom, and power. He teaches young Skywalker to connect to his inner “force”, to tune out the noise of his enemies, and to trust himself. Do you think Yoda gave two sh*ts that Darth Vader was “big and bad” and really, really tall? Would Yoda give in to someone that was bulling him, or decide that he is an unworthy being? Hell no! And this is why Yoda prevailed.
As soon as I take a few days to have a conversation with my spirit guide, I can get myself back on track. I ask for guidance and reflect on the wisdom of what Yoda would tell me. I find peace knowing that I have this capability within to guide myself, chose different, and start again.
Dig deep. Who or what is your spirit guide? If you don’t think you have one, take some time to figure out who/what represents what you often lose touch of. Or, if your spirit guide is on vacation, call him/her/it back, and have an honest conversation.
