I love the New Year.
Not because I get all hyped up about resolutions, but because it holds a nice, fresh feeling. You know, the peace of ditching the stuff that didn’t work in ’16 so you can make new choices that are so much more helpful and rewarding in ’17.
The slow pace of southern Italy, like really, really slow, gave me the opportunity to do just that over the holidays. Reflect.
At soul level, the way I figure out what I do want is to focus on what I DON’T want. This is not something I “guessed” about myself, it is something that I determined in my Akashic Record and that I can determine in yours.
I know it seems like a simple concept, but not understanding this about myself before, I would sit and sit and sit trying to come up with what I DO want. This left me always “sitting”. Sitting and waiting like a shit-out-of-luck American in Italy trying to find an open grocery store during siesta hours, or on a Tuesday when stores are just closed, because it’s Tuesday.
Once I figured out that I operate through exclusion, it was easy peasy. Clear the clutter and throw out the shit I don’t want. By default, I am left with what’s good.
Here are a few things I came up with to leave behind…
1. Trying to “convince” people that it is way cool to know yourself at soul level and it can totally change your life and biz for the better.
I realized there is a difference between teaching by sharing my experiences and speaking “at” people. I somehow left my lane and gravitated toward the latter.
2. Open ended coaching.
I actually did start to weed this out toward the end of 2016 because my primary soul energies are that of a teacher, not really a coach. Once I truly got this, it made so much sense because while I am good at assessing people’s blocks and reframing their experiences, it was painful as a therapist to sit and wait for my clients to figure it out on their own. It is so much easier now to listen, assess, teach, and help my clients tweak their actions within a shorter time frame.
3. Believing I am missing out on something if I didn’t join in on the latest and greatest “biz success” program.
This is hard for me, really, really hard. Being primary in divine self-expression and teaching energy, I also LOVE to be the student. Nobody acquires a bachelor and then 2 masters degrees unless they have a twisted relationship with institutional learning. Plus, I can’t tell you the number of certifications I hold in everything from computer science to now, reading souls.
The problem is I get all wrapped up in learning, that I forget MY own thing. This is the #1 way I get out of alignment and things go south, way south, like somewhere around the tip of Argentina (of which I plan to visit some day). Frankly, this happens to all of us when we are ignoring our soul gifts.
4. Playing small – ugh, kidding.
This is a phrase I wish to not hear anymore, like “awesome sauce”. As far as I am concerned they can both be buried with dial-up speed Internet. What I am referring to is worrying about saying the “wrong thing” and monitoring myself of those things I think could potentially ward off a viable client.
All this does is hold me back from being authentic in my work. Plus, from a logical standpoint, if someone dislikes what I have to say, they would just end up being one of those clients that makes me want to claw my eyeballs out. So why worry about this.
5. And on a personal note, just being “ok” with stuff.
From clothes I buy, to recreational activities, to how I choose to spend my time. If I don’t LOVE it, forget it. This doesn’t mean that I won’t do things with my loved ones that I find less than exciting (because relationships are a compromise). It just means that if I am the deciding factor, I choose to love it.
So tell me, what about you? What have you decided to ditch or keep?
If you would like to know more about HOW you can know yourself at a much deeper level, and make choices in your personal life and biz that flow WITH how you naturally work…
