The sad reality is that most people would rather feel like shit or be unhappy than make changes in their life.
I can appreciate that change is scary, and I’ve had my own WTF moments of, “What did I just do, am I crazy??”.
In a matter of 4 months I quit my traditional psychotherapy practice, left my home and marriage, and moved back to Miami.
It was the scariest time of my life, and I was a complete wreck. (Change is sooooo not pretty!)
But I honored my soul-voice and what I needed to do for whatever greater things were to come. The even crazier thing is, I wasn’t running AWAY from anything, I was headed TO something. But I didn’t even really know what that “TO” was at the time. I just knew I needed change.
This past week we had a house guest, and over the several days he was here I listened to him complain about how much his body hurts.
I observed as he drank soda, ate some kind of dessert after most meals, and chose frosted cream cheese breakfast pastries to start the day. He mentioned that at home he keeps a large Hershey chocolate bar next to his bed to nurse his middle of the night cravings.
When I brought up the “idea” that his body hurts because most of what he’s eating is creating massive joint inflammation, he responded with a bunch of “yea butts”. I then realized that he was more comfortable with his pain than the idea of doing what it takes to change.
Please note, this isn’t a post of judgement. Every person has the right to make their own choices.
Sure, I would love for him to be healthy and feel good if HE wanted it. But the reality is that his food habits do not impact me in any way.
This post is more to get you to think about your own situation, and your willingness to weed through the muck to get what you truly want.
Are you purposefully choosing to be unhappy and miserable in a certain area of your life?
Are you deciding that a crappy diet, a job you hate, or a toxic family member has more power over your joy, success, health, and happiness?
Or are you resisting change because you are afraid to get clarity on what the REAL problem is as you know it won’t be easy to work on?
Your life. Your choice.
As aways, I am here to support you if you decide you are destined for greater things.
