Picture this. The Superbowl Budweiser commercial with the horses and the little puppy. Picture this. Me on the sofa with the tears streaming down my face. Picture this. The husband looking at me like I have lost my mind (though in reality, he does know all about the weepy side of me).
I used to beat myself up because I thought I was overly sensitive. I would cry so easily or get really, really tearful when it came to movies, songs, and sappy commercials. Every time something happened that I viewed as a personal attack, I would cry. Any time I felt intimidated, I would cry. Any time I was angry, I would cry. I felt like I was broken in some way.
Many of my clients come to me with this complaint – “I’m overly sensitive and I am tired of crying all the time.” You should see the looks I get when I say in return, “this may indeed, be a gift”.
Well, let me back up for a moment. Yes, when you are uncomfortable or unhappy with something it is definitely a gift because it is a sign that you are wanting to step out of whatever it is and into something BETTER. Many people ignore these signs, but since you are reading this, I am guessing you are smarter than that.

So let’s talk “overly sensitive”.
The first perspective shift is that there is a name for this. It is called being an empath. I am an empath. I feel things so deeply. I can feel things others are feeling so deeply. This is what makes me good at what I do. Yes, I do need to set up a lot of containers / boundaries for myself so I don’t take on other people’s stress and negative feelings. But in my line of work, I NEED this gift.
So if you think you are overly sensitive an empath, start using it to your advantage. See if you can tap into what others are feeling based on your own feelings. Ask them if this is indeed what is going on with them. If you are right, then guess what, you are an empath. Ultimately, it will help you CONNECT with others and build relationships.
The second perspective, is simply that you need to tweak your Solar Plexus. This is the 3rd chakra, and is your power center. The energy of confidence and self-worth resides here, and if you find yourself welling up in situations where there is conflict, you are intimidated, embarrassed, or angry, then it just means you need do some work here.
I had this problem as well, and my turning point was when I REALLY decided I was so over feeling this way. I was done. So I started a consistent morning routine of visualization, affirmations, Tapping, and meditating. I finally gave my Solar Plexus a much needed overhaul.
