I am in Anchorage this week tailing the husband who is at a leadership conference and mixing in my own work stuff in between. While it is a long way to travel from Florida to Alaska, I totally appreciate the diversity and experience of going back and forth, visiting places of the United States that frankly, many people in their lifetime won't ever see. It isn't that people aren't capable to adventure out into the world, but some don't have the desire to travel, and others want to, but never intend to really find a way to make it happen.
Being out here got me reflecting on how the husband and I ended up here. It all started as a conversation in our Florida home hot tub.
As we sat in the hot tub, we discussed about how we talk, talk, talk about doing things, doing something different, an adventure, but now 5 years later, we are still having the same conversation. We were stuck in the wishing stage, but never did anything about it. We didn't set a true intention, and we didn't take action to move us toward that intention...until 3 ½ years ago...
It started with a headhunter, and a wild idea (or so it seemed at the time), to accept a job offer on a remote-ish Alaskan island. We immediately said, no, definitely out of fear, and so many factors to consider. What about our house? Pets? Our jobs? How could we live in such a small place? The universe was giving us an “in” to our our stated desire, but we were not quite ready to accept it yet.
I can't tell you what changed our minds, but after a great deal of reflection we finally questioned, “why the heck not?”. We said out loud, “let's go for it!” By taking the bait provided, we would just have to know that the rest would work itself out. And it did. Granted, we ended up in a completely different (and even more remote) part of Alaska than planned, but we went with the flow and ended up getting our adventure, and then some. The house, pet, and job stuff also fell into line.
How To Attract Your Adventure
The laws of attraction state that like attracts like. If you focus, think, and act in accordance with what you desire, imagine it as if you already have it, then you have paved the way to making it a reality. If you focus, think, and act in accordance with all the things you hate, dislike, don't want, then that is exactly what will continue to manifest.
The laws of attraction are not selective based on person, environment, or culture. They simply exist, and it is up to you to use them as you choose. They have zero investment in whether you use them to invite super powers or the qualities of a sitting duck.
The laws of attraction do not happen magically. You set the ball in motion by making small adjustments, and hopefully your ball is rolling toward the pins and not the gutter. Eventually you get your strike. But if you prefer to sit on your couch and eat cheese puffs all day, then you will probably be sadly disappointed. No matter how often you state your intentions, the laws of attraction require you to actually make a move, take a risk, and have faith that you are going to get what you want.
Even if travel/adventure isn't your thing, something is. A job promotion. Career change. Improved relationships. Desire to start a family. Whatever it is, set your intention, make a collage, visualize it, tape an image of it to your refrigerator door (yes, I have done this), and use the laws of attraction to get going and make it happen. And don't forget to pay attention to the signs when the universe starts to speak. Sometimes the universe is sneaker than the husband trying to hide his bag of M&Ms (gasp!) from me.
Check It Out
If you are unfamiliar with this book, it is a highly motivating and valuable tool to start a conscious relationship with the laws of attraction. If you are a take-action kind of person, you won't regret the read! Sorry cheese-puffers...keep eating, but at least switch to carrots.
Draw, copy, or cut out a picture that represents what you want for yourself. Put in on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror and look at it every day. Tell yourself that you will get/have/achieve whatever it is. Then follow the signs that will lead you there.
